After her mother's sudden death, nineteen-year-old Clarissa sets out to make good on the dream her mother never got to realize: a bakery of her own in Notting Hill, London. She turns for help to her mother's closest friend and to her unconventional grandmother Mimi, and together the three women, bound by their shared loss, throw themselves into the world of pastry making. Love Sarah is a British comedy-drama that moves between grief and the gradual return of hope as the bakery takes shape.
The film was directed by Eliza Schroeder from a screenplay by Jake Brunger, with Rajita Shah producing. Celia Imrie plays Mimi, Shannon Tarbet plays Clarissa, and Shelley Conn appears as Isabella, alongside Bill Paterson, Rupert Penry-Jones and Grace Calder among a credited cast of 42. It runs 97 minutes.
Released in July 2020, the film drew modest audience scores, sitting at 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 4,400 votes and the same figure on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 84 votes. The consistency between the two suggests a middling but not unfavorable reception from viewers.
