Cicada

Set in New York, this drama follows Ben, a young bisexual man who has recently come out. He enters an intense romantic relationship with Sam, a man of color who is dealing with his own deep emotional wounds. As the two grow closer over the course of a summer, Ben is forced to confront repressed traumas from his past.

The film was written and directed by Matthew Fifer, who also stars as Ben alongside Sheldon D. Brown as Sam. Other cast members include Sandra Bauleo, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, Cobie Smulders, and Scott Adsit, with 37 credited performers in total. Cicada was the first of two films directed by Fifer, preceding his 2024 project Haze.
