Mr. Vampire III

Mr. Vampire III is a 1987 Hong Kong action comedy with horror elements, directed by Ricky Lau. It follows a Taoist priest who makes a living driving out ghosts despite having only a shaky grasp of his craft. Arriving in a town that is being terrorised by mounted bandits, he encounters a genuine Taoist master and is drawn with him into a serious predicament, because the raiders troubling the town turn out to be black magicians. The priests must overcome the evil they face while also dealing with a divide between the living and the spirit world.

The film is the third entry in the series Lau directed, following Mr. Vampire in 1985 and Mr. Vampire II in 1986, and it came before Mr Vampire Saga 4 in 1988. Lam Ching-Ying plays Master Gau, with Richard Ng, Billy Lau, Pauline Wong Yuk-Wan, Chow Gam-Kong and David Lui among the cast. Sammo Hung produced the film for Orange Sky Golden Harvest and Bo Ho Films.

Released in December 1987, the film runs 92 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.7 from 914 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.7, from 49 votes, so viewers on both platforms have judged it similarly, as a solid but not outstanding entry in the series.
