Footloose

Ren MacCormack moves from Boston to Bomont, a small southern town where a local ordinance bans loud music and dancing. The restrictions were introduced by the town's minister, Shaw Moore, after his son died in a car crash, and he defends them as the community's moral standard. Ren, for whom dancing has long been a way of life, refuses to accept the rules quietly. He befriends Willard Hewitt, draws the town's teenagers to his side, and falls for Ariel, the minister's daughter. The conflict between the younger residents and the minister's authority drives the story toward a reckoning over the ban.

Craig Brewer directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Dean Pitchford, working from Pitchford's earlier material; the producers were Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and Brad Weston. It was Brewer's third feature, arriving between Black Snake Moan and Dolemite Is My Name. Kenny Wormald plays Ren and Julianne Hough plays Ariel, with Dennis Quaid as Reverend Moore, Andie MacDowell as Vi Moore, Miles Teller as Willard and Ray McKinnon as Wes Warnicker.

On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from around 55,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from a much smaller pool of 1,761. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 169 reviews sits between the two audience figures, indicating a mixed but not hostile response.
