Occupation: Rainfall

Two years after an alien invasion brought Earth to its knees, a pocket of survivors in Sydney keeps fighting a ground war against the occupying forces. Their numbers are falling steadily, and hope is thin. Then the resistance, joined by allies nobody expected, stumbles onto something that might end the war outright — though the invaders have made clear they intend to stay. Time becomes the enemy as the survivors race to act on what they have found.

This Australian production is the sequel to Occupation, director Luke Sparke's 2018 film, and Sparke again wrote the screenplay as well as directing. Dan Ewing returns as Matt Simmons opposite Jet Tranter as Amelia Chambers, with Temuera Morrison, Ken Jeong and Daniel Gillies in the cast, and Jason Isaacs providing a voice role. It is the third of the six features Sparke has directed, arriving between Occupation and Bring Him to Me.

Made for around 25 million US dollars, it drew a modest audience: on IMDb it holds 4.7 out of 10 from about 16,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 289 votes. A critics' score of 5.4 out of 10 from 23 reviews places it close to the IMDb figure and below the TMDB one. The film runs 128 minutes and was released in October 2020.
