Polisse

Polisse follows a squad of Paris police officers who work in the Child Protection Unit, a department handling crimes committed against minors. Their days bring together custody hearings for sex offenders, arrests of teenage pickpockets, interviews with abusive parents and statements from children, alongside the ordinary routines of lunch breaks, jokes and talk about family troubles. Into this closed world comes Melissa, a photographer assigned by the Interior Ministry to document the unit for a book of pictures. Her presence unsettles the group, and Fred, the hot-tempered and unpredictable member of the team, struggles most with her watchful eye.

Maïwenn directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Emmanuelle Bercot; Alain Attal produced it. It was Maïwenn's second directorial feature and the first of three listed films, ahead of My King in 2015 and Jeanne du Barry in 2023. The large ensemble cast includes Frédéric Pierrot as Baloo, the unit's leader, alongside JoeyStarr, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Karin Viard, Naidra Ayadi and Karole Rocher, among roughly eighty credited performers.

Released in 2011, the film took about 20 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3 out of 10 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it rates 7.8 from roughly 1,300 votes. A critics' score of 6.9 from 83 reviews sits closer to the IMDb figure than to the warmer audience result on TMDB, suggesting broad approval rather than acclaim.
