Short description

Redline is a Japanese animated science fiction action film centered on JP, a reckless driver who competes in the Yellow Line, a qualifying event for the galaxy's most dangerous automobile race. That race, the Redline, takes place only once every five years, and its location is kept secret until the last moment. To take part, JP must first prove himself on the track, then navigate interference from organized crime and the authorities, while his feelings for a fellow racer, Sonoshee McLaren, complicate matters. The race itself permits almost anything, and the cars carry heavy weaponry.

The film was directed by Takeshi Koike, its release following his work on The Animatrix and preceding a run of Lupin the Third features that began with Lupin the Third: Jigen's Gravestone. Katsuhito Ishii, Yoji Enokido and Taiki Sakurai wrote the screenplay, and Kentaro Yoshida and Yukiko Koike produced it for Madhouse and TFC. The voice cast includes Takuya Kimura as JP, Yu Aoi as Sonoshee McLaren, Tadanobu Asano as Frisbee, Takeshi Aono as Old Man Mole, Tatsuya Gashuin as Lynchman and Unsho Ishizuka as Colonel Volton.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 7.5 from around 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 7.6 from roughly 600 votes. Both figures indicate a broadly positive response across very different numbers of voters, with the much larger IMDb sample supporting the same general level of approval.
