Texas Killing Fields

Texas Killing Fields is a crime drama set in the bayous and coastal plains near Texas City, where a local homicide detective, Mike Souder, works alongside Brian Heigh, a New York officer newly arrived in the area. Bodies of murdered women keep turning up in a desolate stretch of marshland known as the Killing Fields, and the crimes appear to have been committed elsewhere before the victims were dumped there. The two men come at the cases from different angles, and their inquiry draws them toward a troubled local girl, Ann Sliger, whom Brian has taken under his protection. When she disappears, the investigation becomes urgent and personal.

The film was directed by Ami Canaan Mann, working from a screenplay by Don Ferrarone, with Michael Mann and Michael Jaffe among the producers. It was her first feature, followed years later by Audrey's Children. Sam Worthington and Jeffrey Dean Morgan play the two detectives, with Jessica Chastain, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jason Clarke and Annabeth Gish in supporting roles. Its large credited cast and crew reflect a sizeable independent production.

Released in October 2011, the film runs 105 minutes. Its ratings sit below the midpoint: on IMDb it holds 5.7/10 from roughly 24,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8/10 from a much smaller base of 536 votes. A critics' score of 5.1/10 from 44 reviews places it slightly beneath the audience figures, indicating a modest reception on both sides.
