Gantz: Perfect Answer continues the story begun in the 2010 film Gantz, itself an adaptation of Hiroya Oku's manga. Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato were killed saving a man who had fallen onto train tracks, then revived inside a sealed Tokyo apartment by a black sphere called Gantz. The sphere forces the dead to hunt strange creatures, and offers a way out: a hundred points can restore a participant to ordinary life or bring someone else back. In this second part, Kei has thrown himself into the missions in the hope of earning enough points to resurrect Kato, while Kato takes a different view of the violence being demanded of them. A new and more dangerous target, beings that look human and fight with weapons formed from their own bodies, turns the game against the players and those close to them.
The film is directed by Shinsuke Sato, working from a screenplay by Yusuke Watanabe, and follows Gantz in Sato's filmography, the second of twelve features listed for him. Kazunari Ninomiya and Kenichi Matsuyama return as Kei and Kato, with Yuriko Yoshitaka, Ayumi Ito, Kanata Hongo and Kensuke Chisaka among the credited cast of thirty-eight. Produced in Japan by TOHO, Shueisha, Nikkatsu and Nippon Television Network, it had a budget of about 22 million USD and took roughly 34 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2/10 from around 4,900 votes, and on TMDB 6.6/10 from roughly 240.
