Short description

The Last Kiss centres on Michael, a thirty-year-old architect whose life in the US appears settled: steady work, a long-term girlfriend, Jenna, and a close circle of friends. When Jenna becomes pregnant, Michael is gripped by doubt, fearing that his life is being mapped out for him. Around the same time, at a friend's wedding, he meets Kim, a younger woman whose free-spirited outlook draws him in. The film follows Michael and three friends as each confronts his own relationship difficulties, so that Jenna's parents, thirty years into their marriage, offer another view of where commitment can lead. The ensemble cast includes Zach Braff as Michael, Jacinda Barrett as Jenna, Casey Affleck as Chris, Rachel Bilson as Kim, Michael Weston as Izzy and Eric Christian Olsen as Kenny. Tony Goldwyn directed, working from a screenplay by Paul Haggis and Gabriele Muccino. It is Goldwyn's third feature, following A Walk on the Moon and Someone Like You…, and it was produced by Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Marcus Viscidi for DreamWorks and Lakeshore Entertainment in 115 minutes. The film grossed about 16 million dollars worldwide against a 20 million dollar budget. Audiences rate it modestly: 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb across 43,000 votes, and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB from 412 votes. Reviewers were less enthusiastic, with a critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 132 reviews.

What's left behind the scenes

  • When Michael wakes up from a thrown sandwich plate, his body shifts onto the rug during the shot change, and his blanket-cloth lies differently.
  • It’s very strange that the parents are so confidently told the baby’s gender, as Jenna was only three months pregnant at the time, and theoretically the gender should already be formed, but it's only possible to definitively determine the gender on an ultrasound in the 5th month (20 weeks).
  • In Kim’s (Rachel Bilson) room, there is a poster of the band The Shins, whose song appears on the soundtrack to Zach Braff’s film “Garden State” (2003). In that film, Zach Braff plays the leading role.
