The Grey

A plane carrying workers from an Alaskan oil operation goes down in a remote stretch of frozen wilderness. The few who survive the crash find themselves stranded far from any hope of rescue, exposed to brutal cold and injury, with limited supplies. John Ottway, a skilled hunter employed to protect the crew from wildlife, takes charge of the group. As they set out across the snow in search of safety, they realise they have come down inside the territory of a wolf pack, and the animals begin hunting them. Relations among the men grow strained as fear and exhaustion take their toll, and staying alive depends on whether they can act together.

Joe Carnahan directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Ian Mackenzie Jeffers. It followed his earlier features Narc, Smokin' Aces and The A-Team, and was produced by Ridley Scott, Jules Daly and Carnahan. Liam Neeson leads the cast as Ottway, alongside Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts, Nonso Anozie and James Badge Dale. Made for about 25 million dollars, it took roughly 80 million worldwide, a strong return. On IMDb it holds 6.7 from around 274,000 votes and on TMDB 6.6 from over 4,000, while the critics' rating stands at 7 out of 10 from 207 reviews, placing professional reviewers slightly above the general audience.
