Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special

Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special is a holiday music special in which the North Pole faces a crisis that threatens the Christmas spirit. Santa turns to his friend Mariah Carey, who assembles a lineup of guest stars for an elaborate musical production meant to lift the mood around the world. The 43-minute program mixes performances and festive staging, with Carey joined by her children Monroe and Moroccan Cannon, dancer Misty Copeland, Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri among a credited cast of 54.

The special was directed by Hamish Hamilton, a specialist in live event and awards television, released between his work on The Little Mermaid Live! the previous year and his later broadcasts of major halftime shows and ceremonies. Roman Coppola, known for the 2001 feature CQ, is also credited as director here, while Caroline Fox wrote the screenplay. It was produced by Done+Dusted in the United States and released on December 3, 2020.

Audience reception has been moderate. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 1,600 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.2 from roughly 73 votes. The voting volume on IMDb suggests a fairly broad audience, while the much smaller TMDB sample points to a limited pool of viewers recording reactions there. No critics' rating is given.
