Caged

Stella has spent years holding back her desires, and eventually she decides she can no longer do so. She begins living a secret double life, frequenting sex clubs and erotic parties, and the attention she receives there changes how she sees herself. When her husband discovers what she has been doing, he chooses to give her the freedom he believes she needs rather than put a stop to it, hoping the whole thing is a passing phase. Stella then wakes one day in a basement cell with no memory of how she got there. After several days, another woman of roughly her age, Christine, is locked in with her, and the two exchange the stories of their lives. Christine becomes convinced that Stella's way of living is the reason they are being held.

Caged is a drama and thriller from the Netherlands Antilles and the Netherlands, released in 2011 with a running time of 105 minutes. Stephan Brenninkmeijer directed, wrote the screenplay and produced the film through BrennFilm, and it stands as the first of the two features he has directed, ahead of Almanak, vrouwen om van te houden in 2024. Chantal Demming plays Stella and Babette Holtmann plays Christine, with Joep Sertons, Victor Reinier, Georges Devdariani and Lotte Taminiau among the supporting cast. Reception from viewers has been modest: on IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.8 out of 10 from around 1,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 52 votes.
