I.S.S.

I.S.S. is a science fiction thriller set aboard the International Space Station in the near future. A joint crew of American and Russian astronauts and scientists is carrying out routine work in orbit when hostilities break out between their two countries on Earth. From the ground, each side secretly instructs its own people to seize control of the station by whatever means are required. The crew, which had managed to cooperate despite the language barrier, is left to decide where its loyalties lie while cut off from the planet below.

Gabriela Cowperthwaite directed the film from a screenplay by Nick Shafir, with Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon producing. It followed her earlier features Blackfish, Megan Leavey and Our Friend, and was one of two films she directed in 2024. The cast is led by Ariana DeBose as Dr. Kira Foster, Chris Messina as Gordon Barrett, John Gallagher Jr. as Christian Campbell, Masha Mashkova as Weronika Vetrov, Costa Ronin as Nicholai Pulov and Pilou Asbæk as Alexey Pulov.

Released in January 2024, the film runs 96 minutes. Made for about 14 million USD, it took in roughly half that amount at the worldwide box office. Audiences have been mixed: it holds 5.3 out of 10 on IMDb from around 15,000 votes and 5.7 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample, while the critics' rating stands at 6 out of 10 across 169 reviews, a slightly warmer response than that of the general audience.
