Weekend
Short description
Russell spends a Friday night out with his straight friends before heading alone to a gay club in Nottingham. Near closing time he meets Glen, and what begins as a casual hookup turns into a weekend the two men spend together, moving between bars and bedrooms, talking, drinking and having sex as they get to know each other. Glen records part of their conversation for an art project about gay sex and the reluctance of society to discuss it. The two are very different in what they want: Russell hopes for a relationship, while Glen keeps his distance, and he plans to leave soon for America to study art, which puts Russell's hopes in question.
Weekend is a British drama written and directed by Andrew Haigh, his second feature following Five Miles Out. Tom Cullen plays Russell and Chris New plays Glen, with supporting turns from Jonathan Race, Laura Freeman, Loreto Murray and Jonathan Wright. Tristan Goligher produced. The film runs 96 minutes.
It was released in 2011. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.6 from around 34,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.3 from roughly 584 votes. A critics' rating of 8.1 from 87 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
