Ronal the Barbarian

Ronal the Barbarian is a Danish animated adventure set in a land of muscle-bound warriors, where Ronal stands out as the opposite of everything his tribe values. He is timid, unheroic, and content to be left alone. His life changes when the warlord Volcazar raids the village and carries off its inhabitants, leaving Ronal behind as the only one who can act. To free his people and stop Volcazar's ambitions, he sets out on a journey, joined by a bard, a warrior woman, and an elf.

The film was directed by Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen, Thorbjørn Christoffersen, and Philip Einstein Lipski, from a screenplay by Christoffersen and produced by Trine Heidegaard. It was the first feature credited to all three directors: Christoffersen went on to make the Checkered Ninja films, and Lipski later directed The Incredible Story of the Giant Pear. The voice cast includes Anders Juul as Ronal, Hadi Ka-Koush as Alibert, Lærke Winther as Zandra, Brian Lykke as Elric, and Lars Mikkelsen as Volcazar. It runs 89 minutes.

Released in September 2011, the film had a modest commercial footprint, taking about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from roughly 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from a much smaller base of around 328 votes. The wider IMDb sample points to a generally favorable but not enthusiastic response.
