The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner follows Amir, a young man from a wealthy Kabul family, and Hassan, the son of his father's servant. The two boys grow up together, but their bond is broken by an act of betrayal that Amir carries with him for the rest of his life. He later leaves Afghanistan for the United States, where he builds a career as a writer. Years afterwards, a request from an old family friend takes him back to a country changed by decades of conflict, in search of Hassan's son and a chance to make amends for the past.

Marc Forster directed the film, adapting Khaled Hosseini's novel from a screenplay by David Benioff. It was Forster's fifth feature, following Stranger Than Fiction and preceding Quantum of Solace. The cast includes Khalid Abdalla as Amir, Homayoun Ershadi as Baba, Shaun Toub as Rahim Kahn, Atossa Leoni as Soraya, Saïd Taghmaoui as Farid and Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada as the young Hassan.

Released in 2007, the film had a budget of about 20 million dollars and took roughly 73 million dollars worldwide. Its ratings sit close together across the three measures: 6.5 out of 10 from 177 critics' reviews, 7.6 on IMDb from 85,000 votes and 7.3 on TMDB from 1,285 votes, indicating that critics were somewhat cooler on it than audiences.
