Anne is a young woman in Amsterdam preparing to move to Montreal to be with her girlfriend Sara. A published author, she is also finishing her first novel, but her publisher questions whether the story she is telling amounts to anything. As she packs and plans her departure, Anne meets Lou, a non-binary drag performer whose view of love, life and sexuality gives her a different perspective at a moment when she needs one. The film follows Anne as she works out what she actually wants, a question that unsettles both her relationship and her writing.
The film is a continuation of the Dutch television series Anne+, with Maud Wiemeijer writing the screenplay and Valerie Bisscheroux directing. Hanna van Vliet leads the cast as Anne, joined by Jouman Fattal as Sara, Thorn Roos de Vries as Lou, Eline van Gils as Lily, Jesse Mensah as Max and Jade Olieberg as Jip. It was produced by Millstreet Films and BNNVARA and runs 94 minutes.
Released in October 2021, the film drew modest audience scores: 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,400 votes, and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB, where the vote count is much smaller. These figures suggest a warm but limited response, concentrated among viewers already familiar with the series.
