Short description
Paul Matthews is an unremarkable university professor and family man who has spent years working on a book about collective intelligence in ants. His quiet life changes when people around the world begin seeing him in their dreams. At first his presence there is mundane, but the attention makes him famous overnight, bringing media coverage and offers he never expected. He tries to use his new visibility to find a publisher for his long-gestating manuscript. The situation turns when his dream appearances become frightening, and the people who once welcomed him begin to react with fear and hostility.
Kristoffer Borgli wrote and directed the film, his second feature after Sick of Myself (2022) and before The Drama (2026). Nicolas Cage plays Paul and also produced alongside Lars Knudsen and Ari Aster. The cast includes Julianne Nicholson as Paul's wife Janet, Michael Cera as Trent, Tim Meadows as Brett, Dylan Gelula as Molly and Lily Bird as Sophie. The production, backed by A24, Square Peg and Saturn Films, cost about 10 million dollars and took roughly 12 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 6.8/10 from 93,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7/10 from 1,455 votes. A critics' rating of 7.5/10 from 241 reviews places it somewhat above those audience scores.
