Poolman

Darren Barrenman is a lifelong Los Angeles resident who looks after the pool at the Tahitian Tiki apartment block and pushes to improve his sun-soaked hometown, often alongside his neighbours Jack and Diane. When he stumbles onto what he takes to be a vast water theft, he starts investigating on his own, and the trail leads him toward corrupt city officials, worn-down Hollywood figures and mysterious benefactors. The comedy-mystery, which runs 100 minutes, centres on his attempts to protect the city he loves.

Chris Pine directs the film and shares screenplay credit with Ian Gotler, with Stacey Sher, Patty Jenkins and Pine producing. Pine also plays Darren, heading a cast of 31 credited performers that includes Annette Bening, Danny DeVito, DeWanda Wise, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Stephen Tobolowsky. It was Pine's first time in the director's chair, made for a budget of 10 million dollars.

Audience response was weak: it holds 4 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 3,200 votes, and 4.3 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample of 74. A critics' rating of 3.2 out of 10 from 59 reviews places it below even the IMDb audience figure.
