You Are the Apple of My Eye

You Are the Apple of My Eye is a 2011 Taiwanese coming-of-age comedy-drama about a group of boys at a private school who are all smitten with Shen Chia-yi, a bright and popular classmate. Ko Ching-teng, the group's troublemaking slacker, insists he feels nothing for her, but his feelings change once he is seated near her. Her influence pushes him to think about who he is and to try to change his life, and the story follows the friends as they move up through the school together.

The film was directed by Giddens Ko, who also wrote the screenplay, with Angie Chai producing. It was Ko's first time in the director's chair, preceding three later features. Kai Ko plays Ching-Teng and Michelle Chen plays Chia-Yi, with Hao Shaowen, Steven Hao, Owodog Chuang and Tsai Chang-Hsien among the credited cast of 78. The film runs 109 minutes.

Audiences have responded warmly: on IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from around 12,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 7.4 out of 10 from roughly 241 votes, a smaller sample that points to the same broadly favorable view. A first feature drawing that level of viewer approval across two platforms suggests the film found a durable audience well beyond its home market.
