Drillbit Taylor

Drillbit Taylor is a 2008 American comedy about three high school freshmen who become targets for a school bully. Unable to defend themselves, Ryan, Wade and Emmit pool their limited money to hire a bodyguard. The man they take on is Drillbit Taylor, who is not the protection expert they believe him to be but a homeless drifter and small-time thief. He trains the boys in his own strange ways while the threat at school continues.

The film was directed by Steven Brill, its place in a run of comedies that includes Heavyweights, Little Nicky and Without a Paddle. Seth Rogen and Kristofor Brown wrote the screenplay, and Judd Apatow produced. Owen Wilson leads the cast as Drillbit Taylor, with Leslie Mann as Lisa, and Nate Hartley, Troy Gentile and David Dorfman as the three students. Alex Frost plays the bully Filkins.

Produced by Paramount and Apatow Productions on a budget of around 40 million dollars, the film returned roughly 33 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from about 64,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 out of 10 from over a thousand votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 145 reviews places it below the audience scores.
