Prom Night

Donna Keppel is a high school senior looking forward to her prom, having tried to move past the trauma of witnessing her family's murder years earlier. The killer responsible, who had been institutionalized, escapes and comes after her, turning the evening she hoped would be a celebration into a night of pursuit through the prom. A detective races to reach her before the attacker does.

Prom Night was directed by Nelson McCormick, working from a screenplay by J.S. Cardone. It followed McCormick's earlier Global Frequency and preceded The Stepfather in his filmography. Brittany Snow plays Donna, with Scott Porter, Jessica Stroup, Dana Davis, Collins Pennie and Kelly Blatz among the main cast. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe produced the film, a Canada-United States co-production from Newmarket Films, Original Film, Miramax and Screen Gems, made for about 20 million dollars. It runs 89 minutes.

Its reception was largely negative. On IMDb it holds 4 out of 10 from around 40,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.1 out of 10 from roughly 800 votes, both low given the modest audience sample. Critics were harsher still, with a film critics' rating of 2.8 out of 10 from 68 reviews, well below even the IMDb score. Its worldwide box office of 15 million dollars fell short of its reported budget.
