Short description
The Old Way is a Western about Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger who has left violence behind and settled into life as a storekeeper with a wife and daughter. That quiet existence ends when his wife is murdered by a gang of outlaws, and Briggs takes up his gun again, this time with his twelve-year-old daughter, Brooke, at his side as he hunts the men responsible. A revenge-seeking figure from his violent past also closes in.
The film was directed by Brett Donowho from a screenplay by Carl W. Lucas. It is Donowho's third feature, following The Sacred and Acts of Violence. Nicolas Cage plays Colton Briggs, with Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Brooke. The cast also includes Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Shiloh Fernandez and Abraham Benrubi.
The Old Way was released in January 2023 and runs 95 minutes. Its critical reception was weak: critics' reviews average 5.1/10 from 59 reviews, and on IMDb it holds 4/10 from 41 votes. On TMDB, the audience rating is 5.8/10 from 306 votes, which is somewhat more favourable than the critical consensus, though still mixed.

- Hanna Gutierrez-Reed was in charge of weapons on the film set, and was frequently accused of violating safety regulations by the assistant director and Nicolas Cage, to the point where she nearly was removed from the crew. She was also in charge of weapons on the set of the film "Rust" in 2021 and became a person of interest in a criminal investigation following the death of Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) and the injury of Joel Souza on set.
