Franklyn

Franklyn moves between present-day London and Meanwhile City, a futuristic metropolis where religious observance is compulsory. In that city, the masked detective Preest hunts a cult leader he holds responsible for a child's death. In London, Milo, a man in his thirties, is still reeling from a wedding that never happened, while the art student Emilia fills her work with images of death, and the older Esser searches the streets for his missing son. The four are unconnected at first, but their paths converge and a single bullet settles their fate.

The film is the feature debut of writer-director Gerald McMorrow, who also wrote the screenplay, and it was produced by Jeremy Thomas, Nick O'Hagan and Alexandra Stone. Eva Green plays Emilia, Ryan Phillippe plays Preest, Bernard Hill plays Esser and Sam Riley plays Milo, with Art Malik and Richard Coyle among a credited cast of twenty. It was made for about 12 million dollars and returned roughly 1 million worldwide, a wide gap between cost and takings.

On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 19,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 400 votes, both indicating moderate rather than enthusiastic approval. A critics' rating of 5.2 out of 10 from thirty reviews puts professional assessment slightly below the audience scores. The film runs 98 minutes and was released in 2008.
