The Brady Bunch Movie

The Brady Bunch Movie brings the family from the 1970s television series into the 1990s, where their tidy, old-fashioned ways stand out sharply against the era. Mike and Carol Brady and their six children live in a suburban neighborhood that a developer, Larry Ditmeyer, wants to clear for a shopping mall. The Bradys refuse to sell, so he schemes to take their home through a tax debt. With only about a week to act, the family must raise twenty thousand dollars or lose the house, and the children throw themselves into the effort.

Betty Thomas directed the comedy, her first feature as director, followed later by Private Parts, Doctor Dolittle, 28 Days, I Spy, John Tucker Must Die and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Shelley Long and Gary Cole play Carol and Mike Brady, with Christine Taylor, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Jennifer Elise Cox and Paul Sutera among the children. Laurice Elehwany and Bonnie and Terry Turner wrote the screenplay; Sherwood Schwartz, creator of the original series, produced with Lloyd J. Schwartz and David Paul Kirkpatrick.

Made for twelve million dollars, the film took in about forty-seven million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2/10 from roughly 26,000 votes, on TMDB 6.1/10 from around 336 votes, while critics gave it 5.8/10 from forty-three reviews, a reception broadly in line with those audience figures.
