Strays

Strays follows Reggie, a border terrier whose unwavering belief in his owner, Doug, survives being abandoned on city streets. Reggie assumes the separation was a mistake, but a stray named Bug, who prizes his freedom and distrusts owners, makes him see that Doug left him deliberately. Reggie is joined by Maggie, a shepherd pushed aside by her owner's new puppy, and Hunter, a stressed therapy dog, as he comes to understand his old life differently.

The film is a comedy directed by Josh Greenbaum, his fourth narrative feature following Becoming Bond and Too Funny to Fail in 2017 and Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar in 2021. Dan Perrault wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Will Ferrell as Reggie, Jamie Foxx as Bug, Isla Fisher as Maggie and Randall Park as Hunter. Will Forte plays Doug, with Brett Gelman among the credited cast of 39.

Released in August 2023, Strays had a production budget of 46 million dollars and took about 36 million dollars worldwide, well below its cost. On IMDb it rates 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 38,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2 from about a thousand votes, and the critics' rating of 5.4 from 175 reviews indicates a less favourable professional response than the audience scores suggest.
