Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

Ace Ventura has retreated to a Tibetan monastery to meditate after failing to save an animal on a previous case. A consular official named Fulton Greenwall tracks him down there and offers him money to take on a new assignment in Africa: recovering a sacred white bat that has vanished from the land of the Wachati tribe. The bat's disappearance threatens to ignite a war with the neighbouring Wachootoo, and Ace, who is afraid of bats, has to find it before the Wachati princess marries the Wachootoo prince.

Jim Carrey returns as the pet detective, with Ian McNeice as Greenwall, Simon Callow as Vincent Cadby, Maynard Eziashi as Ouda and Sophie Okonedo as the princess. Steve Oedekerk wrote the screenplay and directed, making this his first film as director; he went on to make Nothing to Lose, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist and Barnyard. The production had a budget of 30 million dollars and took 212 million dollars worldwide, a strong multiple of its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from around 248,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3/10 from roughly 4,700 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 4/10 from 30 reviews, well below the audience scores.
