Wrongfully Accused

Wrongfully Accused is a 1998 comedy starring Leslie Nielsen as Ryan Harrison, a world-famous violinist whose fame makes him a tabloid fixture. His life unravels when Lauren Goodhue, a wealthy woman he meets, draws him into a scheme surrounding her husband's murder. Although the attacker is described as missing an arm, a leg and an eye, Harrison is arrested, convicted and sentenced to death. During a transfer to the execution site, the prison bus crashes and he escapes, becoming a fugitive pursued by Fergus Falls, a relentless lawman. On the run, Harrison tries to track down the real killer and clear his name, while finding himself caught up in a conspiracy that reaches beyond the murder case.

Pat Proft directed and wrote the screenplay, with Bernd Eichinger, James G. Robinson and Proft producing for Warner Bros. Pictures, Constantin Film and Morgan Creek. Nielsen leads a cast that also includes Richard Crenna, Kelly LeBrock, Melinda McGraw, Aaron Pearl and Leslie Jones, among 65 credited performers and 53 credited crew members. The film runs 87 minutes and was made for about 3 million dollars, a modest budget for a spoof-driven action comedy.

Released in July 1998, it earned roughly 10 million dollars worldwide, a return of more than three times its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 32,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 540 votes, indicating a modest but enduring audience. A critics' rating of 3.8 out of 10 from 32 reviews is noticeably lower than the viewer scores.
