Half Baked

Thurgood works as a janitor in a pharmaceutical laboratory and spends much of his time getting high with his friends Brian and Scarface. When their friend Kenny lands in jail after accidentally killing a diabetic police horse with junk food, the three of them need money for his bail. They steal marijuana from the lab where Thurgood cleans and start a delivery business called Mr. Nice Guy, which quickly draws customers and attention. Thurgood's situation gets complicated because his girlfriend campaigns against drugs, and a local dealer whose trade the new operation undercuts becomes a threat to all of them.

Tamra Davis directed the film, her fourth feature after CB4, Billy Madison and Best Men, and the screenplay is by Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan. Chappelle plays Thurgood, with Jim Breuer as Brian, Harland Williams as Kenny, Guillermo Díaz as Scarface, Rachel True as Mary Jane and Tommy Chong as the Squirrel Master. The cast and crew together number 58 and 99 credited people respectively.

Released in January 1998, the film had a budget of 8 million dollars and took in about 17 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from roughly 71,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from 671 votes, indicating a modest but lasting audience. The critics' rating of 4.5 from 25 reviews is noticeably lower than the audience scores.
