Air Force One

Air Force One is an action thriller about a hijacking that turns the US president's own aircraft into a battleground. President James Marshall is flying home from Moscow with his wife, daughter and staff when a group of terrorists, posing as journalists, seizes the plane. Their leader, Ivan Korshunov, demands the release of a imprisoned foreign general and threatens to kill hostages if he is refused. Marshall stays hidden aboard the aircraft and begins to fight back alone, while his family and advisors remain in the terrorists' hands. Much of the tension comes from the conflict between his duty as president and his fear for the people closest to him.

The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, working from a screenplay by Andrew W. Marlowe. It followed In the Line of Fire and Outbreak in Petersen's filmography, continuing his run of large-scale thrillers. Harrison Ford plays Marshall, with Gary Oldman as Korshunov, Glenn Close as Vice President Kathryn Bennett, Wendy Crewson as Grace Marshall and Liesel Matthews as Alice Marshall. The production cost about 85 million dollars and took roughly 315 million dollars worldwide, a strong return.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.5 from around 223,000 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 6.5, from a much smaller voter base. A critics' rating of 7.1 from 65 reviews places professional assessments slightly above the audience scores.
