Deck the Halls is a 2006 comedy set in the New England town of Cloverdale, where optometrist Steve Finch has long been the undisputed authority on Christmas. His tightly scheduled December of carols, baking and tree traditions has worn thin on his wife and children, but he guards his standing proudly. That standing is challenged when Buddy Hall, a car salesman, moves in next door and sets out to outdo him, covering his house in lights bright enough to be seen from space. As their wives become friends and the children follow, the two men turn a neighborly disagreement into an all-out decorating war.
John Whitesell directed, working from a screenplay by Don Rhymer, Chris Ord and Matt Corman. It was his third feature as director, following Malibu's Most Wanted and Big Momma's House 2, and it sits between those earlier comedies and later ones such as Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Holidate. Danny DeVito plays Buddy opposite Matthew Broderick as Steve, with Kristin Davis, Kristin Chenoweth, Alia Shawkat and Fred Armisen in supporting roles. The production, from New Regency Pictures and Corduroy Films, carried a budget of 51 million dollars and took in about 47 million worldwide.
On TMDB the film holds a rating of 5.6 from 829 votes. IMDb shows 7.7 from a much smaller base of 11 votes.
