Short description

In the year 10,191, the most precious substance in the universe is the spice Melange. The spice extends life. The spice expands consciousness. The spice is vital to space travel. The spice exists on only one planet in the entire universe, the vast desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. Its native inhabitants, the Fremen, have long held a prophecy that a man would come, a messiah who would lead them to true freedom.

What's left behind the scenes

The film was shot in several countries, including Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, as well as Rome and Tunisia.
Laura Burton played the role of Muad'Dib's sister, Alia Atreides, but she grew so quickly during filming that the purple contact lenses ordered for her no longer fit, so towards the end, she filmed without them.
This three-part mini-series was based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert.
The series aired in December 2000 on the American Sci-Fi Channel under the title 'Frank Herbert's Dune'.
To create the effect of bright purple eyes, special contact lenses as well as a special light filter on the movie camera were used.
To create the perspective of the desert planet Arrakis, the cinematographer used large stands with stretched matte fabric.
Everyone who appeared in the film as Fremen were Czech actors.
