What's left behind the scenes
- The fourth season of the series became a spin-off of the project 'The Worst Witch at Wizards' College,' as Georgina Sherrington, who played Mildred, was already 18 by the time the third season was filmed, and her character needed to be transferred from school to somewhere else.
- The series never explains the absence of Miss Bat (played by Una Stubbs) after the second season. Supplemental materials indicate that she moved to Inner Mongolia (an autonomous region in northern China, bordering Mongolia and Russia).
- The similarities between this film and the Harry Potter franchise have been discussed for years. Kate Duchenne (who played Miss Hardbroom) was even offered a role in Chris Columbus's adventure film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), but she preferred to continue her work in The Worst Witch.
- Terence Hardiman played Hellebore in the first season; in the second season, Richard Durden played the character in his only appearance, and in the third season, the role returned to Hardiman.
- Only four books of 'The Worst Witch' series had been released during the production of the show. Riding the wave of the television series' popularity, Jill Murphy published three more books.
- Starting with the second season, Katie Allen replaced Felicity Jones in the role of Ethel. Jones later returned to play Ethel in the 2001-2002 series The Worst Witch at Witches' Academy, a sequel to the project.
- Jill Murphy liked the television series more than the 1980s TV movie; however, she later admitted that the beginning of the series was better than the later material, which was devised by the screenwriters and was not in the books. Murphy took an active part in the 2017 reboot of the project.
