Short description
Upcoming action and science fiction adventure Avengers: Doomsday follows heroes from three separate universes who are brought together by a deadly collision course. These groups, including the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers, must unite to combat an unprecedented existential threat posed by Doctor Doom.
The film is produced by Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige Productions, and AGBO. It is directed by Shawn Levy, marking the 15th of 17 films he has directed, following Deadpool & Wolverine. Joe and Anthony Russo also serve as directors; this project follows The Electric State and precedes Avengers: Secret Wars in their respective filmographies. The screenplay was written by Jeff Loveness, Michael Waldron, and Stephen McFeely.
The main cast features Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, alongside Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, and Anthony Mackie. The production includes a credited cast of 41 people and a crew of 143. With a runtime of 165 minutes, the movie is scheduled for release in the United States on December 16, 2026.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film's original title was "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty." Kang the Conqueror from "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," played by Jonathan Majors, was intended to be the main villain. However, in 2023, Majors' former partner accused him of assault, leading to his dismissal in 2024. As a result, Marvel Studios replaced Kang with Victor von Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., and the film was retitled "Avengers: Doomsday."
- Robert Downey Jr. was previously considered for the role of Victor von Doom in the 2005 film "Fantastic Four."
- Due to working on this film, Robert Downey Jr. had to decline the role of Poseidon in Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey."
