Lola Versus

Lola is a writer in New York approaching thirty and preparing to marry Luke, her partner of several years, when he calls off the wedding shortly before the date. Suddenly single in a city she thought she had figured out, she leans on her closest friends while trying to get her life and her work back on track. Their efforts to help her often do more harm than good, and the months that follow bring awkward dates, professional setbacks and hard questions about what she actually wants. Underneath it all is the realisation that no one else is going to sort out her future for her.

Daryl Wein directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Zoe Lister-Jones, who also appears as Lola's friend Alice. Greta Gerwig plays Lola, with Joel Kinnaman as Luke, Hamish Linklater as Henry, Bill Pullman as Lenny and Debra Winger as Robin. It is Wein's first feature in the chronological list of his directing work, followed by How It Ends and Something from Tiffany's.

The film was released in 2012 and runs 87 minutes. Reception was modest: on IMDb it holds 5.5/10 from around 9,100 votes, and on TMDB 5/10 from roughly 150 votes. A critics' rating of 5.3/10 from 82 reviews places professional opinion broadly in line with the audience scores, all of them landing in middling territory rather than enthusiastic endorsement.
