Short description
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 continues the story of four lifelong friends who first met as teenagers. Now in their first year of college, Tibby, Lena, Carmen and Bridget have scattered to different schools and separate summer plans, so the pair of jeans they once passed among themselves becomes the thread that keeps them connected. Each faces her own choices about work, family, romance and ambition, and the friends come to rely on the bond between them while their lives pull them apart.
Sanaa Hamri directed the film, her second feature after Something New, from a screenplay by Elizabeth Chandler. Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Blake Lively return as the four leads, with Rachel Nichols and Tom Wisdom among the supporting cast. The production cost about 27 million dollars and took in roughly 44 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 32,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from 815 votes, showing a modest but similar response from audiences on both. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 97 reviews places professional opinion close to that audience level. Hamri went on to direct Just Wright and Lovestruck: The Musical after this release.
What's left behind the scenes
- During filming, Blake Lively was injured after stepping on a sea urchin, and all "around 42 needles" stuck in her foot had to be removed one by one, and, unfortunately, there were no painkillers on set.
- The actresses – Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, and Blake Lively – themselves requested the filming of the final scene, where their characters jump off a cliff. While in Greece, they saw two teenagers doing the same thing, who turned out to be fans of the first film in the franchise from 2005. They convinced the girls to finish the sequel with this scene, and the actresses, in turn, presented the idea to the film's director, Sanaa Hamri, who did not object.
