A non-binary teenager in North Carolina is forced to leave home after their deeply religious parents reject their identity. They find shelter with an estranged sister and her husband, but the trauma of the family split leads to ongoing anxiety. While trying to remain unnoticed at school, the protagonist eventually finds hope and support through a relationship with a bisexual classmate.
