Short description

George Needleman is a Wall Street banker who has spent years ignoring both the problems in his own family and the questionable dealings at his firm. When he discovers he has been set up in a Ponzi scheme with mob connections, he becomes a key witness, and federal authorities place him and his household under witness protection. With nowhere else to hide them, the family is moved into the home of Madea, whose forceful approach to discipline is unlike anything the pampered newcomers have experienced.

Tyler Perry directed and wrote the film, the ninth of the twenty-nine features he has directed, following Madea's Big Happy Family and preceding Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. Perry plays Madea alongside Joe and Brian, with Eugene Levy as George, Denise Richards as his wife Kate, Romeo Miller as Jake, Doris Roberts as Barbara and Tom Arnold as Walter, among a credited cast of twenty-one. Produced by Tyler Perry Studios for a reported twenty million dollars, it went on to take about sixty-seven million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5 out of 10 from roughly twelve thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from around two hundred votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took place in New York and Atlanta from mid-January to early March 2012.
  • In New York, when Madea gets out of the taxi to go to the bank, she asks George why he speaks with a French accent when he only spoke to her. She then says she can also speak French, referencing the garbled lyrics of the famous song "Lady Marmalade" ('Giuchie, Giuchie, ya ya dada...Mocha Chocalata ya ya'). At the beginning of the film, when Barbara flirts with Joe, she also utters phrases from this song.
