Set in 1978, this Japanese film follows a group of high school students who share a passion for cinema. Inspired by Star Wars, a student named Kurita teams up with his friends to create a science fiction movie for their school festival. Using an 8mm camera, the boys collaborate with a classmate and recruit the most popular girl in their class to play the lead role. Throughout the summer, they work together to produce a story about an alien vessel that attempts to save humanity by reversing time.

Directed and written by Kazuya Konaka, Single8 is the sixth film in his directorial career, released in 2023 following Sylvanian Families: The Movie.
