The Water Flows to the Sea

The Water Flows to the Sea is a Japanese drama and romance about Naotatsu, a high school student who moves to live with his uncle. Upon arriving at the train station during a heavy rainstorm, he is met by a peculiar woman named Sakaki. She leads him to a shared residence, where the two begin an unconventional life together.

The film was directed by Tetsu Maeda, following his work on Saru Lock: The Movie and We're Broke, My Lord!. It is the third film in his chronological list of directed works, preceded by those titles and followed by 90 Years Old – So What? and Petals and Memories. The screenplay was written by Satomi Oshima and produced by Ayumi Kondo. The movie was produced by Kodansha, TV Tokyo, Happinet Phantom Studios, and Foster Plus Co.

The cast is led by Suzu Hirose as Chisa Sakaki and Riku Onishi as Naotatsu Kumazawa. Other appearing actors include Kengo Kora, Ami Touma, Junki Tozuka, and Masanobu Katsumura. Released on June 9, 2023, the film has a runtime of 123 minutes.
