A young woman named Nat moves from the city to a small house in the rural Spanish village of La Escapa, hoping to leave a stressful life behind. She soon finds the house rundown and her landlord hostile, and her only steady company is a stray dog that takes up residence in her yard. Her reclusive neighbour Andreas offers to carry out the repairs she needs, on condition that she agree to a sexual arrangement. She hesitates, then accepts, and the relationship that follows pushes her to rethink who she is.
Isabel Coixet directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Laura Ferrero, adapting the novel by Sara Mesa. It sits between The Bookshop and Three Goodbyes in the director's filmography. Laia Costa plays Nat, with Hovik Keuchkerian as Andreas; Hugo Silva, Luis Bermejo, Ingrid García Jonsson and Francesco Carril appear in supporting roles. It was produced in Spain with backing from Movistar+, ICEC, TV3 and Crea SGR, and runs 127 minutes.
Released in late 2023, the film holds an IMDb rating of 6.5 from around 1,700 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.6 from a few dozen votes, placing it in modest but consistent territory across both audiences. Those figures suggest a drama that drew a limited but reasonably positive response rather than a broad one.
