Two FBI agents travel to a small police station in rural Canada, where a stretch of lonely highway has been the scene of a series of brutal murders. The local officers are eager to begin a pursuit, but the federal agents take a different approach: before they can make sense of the case, they need to hear from three witnesses whose paths crossed the killer's. Those witnesses are a fellow police officer, a young woman drug user, and an eight-year-old girl, and each gives a version of events that clashes with the others. As the accounts are told and retold, it becomes clear that none of them is being entirely honest about what happened.
The film was directed by Jennifer Chambers Lynch, who wrote the screenplay with Kent Harper. It followed her 1993 debut, Boxing Helena, and preceded Chained in 2012. Julia Ormond and Bill Pullman play the FBI agents, with Pell James, Ryan Simpkins, Cheri Oteri and Michael Ironside among a credited cast of 22. Made for about 4 million dollars, it took in roughly 1 million worldwide.
On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 19,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from 371 votes. A critics' rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 74 reviews places it below the audience scores.
