Six years after Michael Myers was believed to have died in a fire, the town of Haddonfield prepares to mark Halloween again. Myers reappears, and his path crosses with Jamie Lloyd, his niece, who has escaped from a group holding her captive after giving birth. Meanwhile, Dr. Samuel Loomis comes out of retirement to hunt him once more. A family that has moved into the house where Myers first killed becomes caught up in the violence, and a young boy there hears strange voices at night.
The film is directed by Joe Chappelle, the first of the features he directed in the order listed: it precedes Phantoms, Takedown and The Skulls II. Daniel Farrands wrote the screenplay, Paul Freeman produced, and Donald Pleasence plays Dr. Loomis, with Paul Rudd as Tommy Doyle, Marianne Hagan as Kara Strode, Mitchell Ryan as Dr. Wynn, Kim Darby as Debra Strode and Bradford English as John Strode. It runs 88 minutes.
Made for about 5 million dollars, it took in roughly 15 million worldwide, a modest return relative to its cost. Audiences rate it low on IMDb, 4.7 from 46,000 votes, and on TMDB, 5.2 from 1,276 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7 from 38 reviews places it below even the audience scores.
