Laws of Attraction

Laws of Attraction follows two New York divorce lawyers, Daniel Rafferty and Audrey Woods, who spend their working lives on opposing sides of bitter marital breakups. She builds her cases strictly from the rulebook, while he prefers instinct and improvisation, and their clashes in court gradually give way to mutual attraction. When a high-profile client couple, a rock star and his designer wife, fight over an Irish castle, the two attorneys travel to Ireland to handle the dispute, and a night of celebration there leaves them married to each other. Back in New York, they must sort out how to be opponents in the courtroom and spouses outside it.

Peter Howitt directed the film, his fourth feature after Sliding Doors, Antitrust and Johnny English. Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore lead the cast as Daniel and Audrey, with Michael Sheen and Parker Posey as the feuding celebrity clients, and Frances Fisher and Nora Dunn in supporting roles. Aline Brosh McKenna and Robert Harling wrote the screenplay.

Released in 2004, the romantic comedy runs 90 minutes and was made for about 28 million dollars, returning roughly 30 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 470 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 4.4 from 147 reviews, a gap that suggests audiences were somewhat warmer toward it than reviewers.
