Eight years after Andy Barclay believed he had destroyed the killer doll, the now sixteen-year-old is enrolled at a military school. Meanwhile, the heads of the Play Pals toy company decide enough time has passed to revive the Good Guys line. When the first doll rolls off the assembly line, formed from a mass of melted plastic, the spirit of the murderer Chucky is reborn. He resumes his pursuit of Andy, still determined to transfer his soul into the boy's body and escape his plastic form, and begins working his way through the school.

The film is a horror thriller directed by Jack Bender, the first title in his directing filmography ahead of Armed and Innocent and Lone Justice 2. Don Mancini wrote the screenplay, Robert Latham Brown produced, and Universal Pictures released it in 1991. Justin Whalin plays Andy, with Brad Dourif voicing Chucky, and Perrey Reeves, Jeremy Sylvers, Travis Fine and Dean Jacobson among the credited cast of thirty-four. Made for roughly thirteen million dollars, it returned about twenty-one million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from around fifty-one thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.9 from about eighteen hundred. A critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from sixteen reviews places it below the audience scores.
