Fragile

Fragile is a horror mystery set in the Mercy Falls children's hospital on the Isle of Wight, an ageing building that is being shut down after a century of use. Amy Nicholls, an American nurse carrying guilt over the death of a patient in her care, is hired to cover the night shift while the remaining children wait to be moved to other hospitals. She notices that the young patients are frightened of something they call the mechanical girl, said to occupy a floor sealed off for more than forty years. As noises and other disturbances multiply, Amy tries to shield the children and persuade a sceptical staff, including her colleague Helen Perez and the administrator Robert Marcus, that the danger is real. The children's claims centre on a girl named Maggie, while Amy is also forced to confront her own past.

Jaume Balagueró directed from a screenplay he wrote with Jordi Galcerán. The film followed his 2002 feature Darkness and preceded [REC] in his filmography. Calista Flockhart leads as Amy, with Richard Roxburgh, Elena Anaya, Gemma Jones, Yasmin Murphy and Colin McFarlane among the credited cast of thirty-three. Made for about seven million dollars, it took a similar amount worldwide, a modest return for a genre release. On IMDb it holds 8.5 from 34 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.5 from 644 votes.
