Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves is a family science-fiction comedy about the inventor Wayne Szalinski, whose shrinking machine has already caused trouble at home before. This time the accident catches the adults: Wayne, his brother Gordon and their wives are reduced to microscopic size in their own house. While the four of them try to make their children notice them, the kids believe they have the place to themselves and settle in for a party, unaware that their tiny parents are watching. The household turns into an oversized obstacle course of toy cars, soap bubbles and ordinary objects that suddenly pose real danger.
The film is the third entry in the series that began with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and it was made for home video rather than cinemas, produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Home Video on a budget of 7 million dollars. It was directed by Dean Cundey, a longtime cinematographer working here as director, from a screenplay by Joel Hodgson, Karey Kirkpatrick and Nell Scovell. Rick Moranis returns as Wayne, joined by Robin Bartlett, Stuart Pankin and Eve Gordon as the other shrunken adults, with Bug Hall and Allison Mack among the children. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 753 votes, which places it well below the reception of the earlier films in the series. At 74 minutes, it is a short, effects-driven comedy aimed at younger viewers.
