Nine Months

Samuel Faulkner is a San Francisco child psychologist with a comfortable life, a long-term girlfriend, Rebecca Taylor, and no wish to change any of it. Rebecca, a dance teacher, wants a child. When she becomes pregnant, Samuel reacts with alarm rather than joy, and the nine months that follow test the couple as they argue over practical questions and he struggles to accept the prospect of fatherhood. Friends and neighbours, including a couple with children of their own and an eccentric doctor, add to the pressure.

Chris Columbus directed and wrote the screenplay, producing with Mark Radcliffe and Michael Barnathan. It was his sixth film as director, following Mrs. Doubtfire and preceding Stepmom. Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore play the leads, with Tom Arnold, Joan Cusack, Jeff Goldblum and Robin Williams in supporting roles. Sixty-three cast members and sixty crew are credited.

Released in July 1995, the film runs 103 minutes. Made for about 35 million USD, it took roughly 139 million USD worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 40,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 out of 10 from about 725 votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 37 reviews places it below the audience scores on both sites.
