Motel Destino

Motel Destino is a neon-lit sex hotel on the northern coast of Brazil, run by the volatile Elias and his wife Dayana, who has grown weary of their marriage. Heraldo, a young man on the run after a robbery, takes shelter there and is allowed to stay on as a handyman. Dayana is drawn to him, and the attraction between them sets off a tense contest of power and loyalty as the two edge toward a plan to break free.

Karim Aïnouz directed the film, which he made after Invisible Life, Mariner of the Mountains and Firebrand, and before Rosebush Pruning. The screenplay is by Wislan Esmeraldo and Mauricio Zacharias, and the cast includes Iago Xavier as Heraldo, Nataly Rocha as Dayana, Fábio Assunção as Elias, Renan Capivara as Jorge, Fabíola Líper as Bambina and Isabela Catão as Marta. It is a Brazilian, German and French co-production.

The film runs 115 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from roughly 2,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from a much smaller base of about 70 ratings, so the audience response is modest and broadly consistent across both.
